Black Students Thrive
African American / Black Student Achievement
Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) has prioritized a goal developed through community engagement and Parent Advisory Council input to address historical inequities affecting African American and Black students.
The District recognizes longstanding disparities in educational outcomes between African American/Black students and their non-Black peers and acknowledges that structural and instructional barriers have contributed to these inequities.
Inspired by local and national advocacy for racial equity, as well as the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision, SUSD is committed to improving:
- Chronic absenteeism rates
- Suspension rates
- Academic achievement outcomes
- Transparency and progress monitoring
These commitments are reflected in strategic initiatives such as the African American Black Student Achievement Plan (AABSAP) and the Educator Gap Equity Plan. District teams regularly monitor and report progress and outcomes for Black students to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
