Online learning provides schools with a flexible learning management system to improve student achievement. Courses are rigorous and many are UC, and A-G approved. This program is primarily offered to students who need to retake a course for credit recovery (F in the original course), improve a grade (D in original grade) or need additional credits to graduate on time. High-school counselors will work with students and families to register students. Students will attend class with an approved online learning registration form to be enrolled in the course.
Where available, the extended school day is offered to high school students who need to retake a course for credit recovery (F in the original course), improve a grade (D in original grade) or need additional credits to graduate on time. High school counselors will work with students and families to register students.
Extended school year programs provide courses for credit recovery. Senior Graduation Summer School will be offered to seniors who need credits for graduation. Applications are available from high-school counselors.
AB 216 section 51225.1 states that a school district may now allow a student in foster care to stay in high school for a fifth year so that the student can complete the district’s graduation requirements. For a student to be eligible for an additional year of high school, the district must first determine that the student is “reasonably able” to complete the district’s high school graduation requirements by the end of the fifth year. If the district makes this determination, the district must provide notice to the student and others of this option and related details.
In Independent Study, the student works independently and is guided by a teacher but usually does not take classes with other students every day. High School counselors will place students in appropriate courses.
