Workplace Rights Notice: California SB 294

Stockton Unified School District provides this notice to help all employees understand their rights under California law, including Senate Bill 294 (SB 294), the “Workplace Know Your Rights Act.”

Your Rights at Work

As an employee, you have the right to:

  • Workers’ Compensation: If you are injured at work, you can get medical care and wage replacement.SUSD Workers' Compensation information and District contacts. 
  • Immigration Enforcement Notices – You have the right to be notified if immigration authorities inspect your workplace.
  • Protected Activities:  You can discuss working conditions, join or form a union, or participate in other lawful collective actions.
  • Interaction with Law Enforcement: You have rights if law enforcement questions or detains you while at work.
  • Other Rights: Additional employee protections are provided by the California Labor Commissioner.

Emergency Contact

SB 294 requires employees to provide an emergency contact. The contact may be notified if you are arrested or detained on district property, or during work hours if the district has knowledge. Employees may update Emergency Contacts at any time via the LaserFiche System.

Protection from Retaliation

You cannot be punished for:

  • Exercising any rights under SB 294.
  • Reporting a violation of workplace rights.
  • Cooperating with investigations regarding workplace rights.
