ParentSquare SmartSite Do’s and Don’ts
DO:
✅ DO use “Paste as plain text”
Use the “Clear Formatting” or “Paste as plain text” option before pasting content into SmartSite to ensure fonts, sizes, and styles stay consistent with district standards.
✅ DO enable the “Show App Name” (or Page Title) option
If you want your page/app name to appear as the header, make sure “Show App Name” is turned on in your SmartSite page settings.
✅ DO add descriptive alternative text (alt text) for all images
Write short (around 125 characters) and meaningful alt text for every uploaded photo to keep the website fully ADA compliant.
✅ DO set hyperlinks to “Open in New Window”
When inserting links, choose Target: Open in new window so visitors aren’t taken away from your school or district site.
✅ DO sign out of ParentSquare SmartSite
Always sign out of your SmartSite editor when walking away from your computer to protect your content and account.
DON’T:
❌ DO NOT use colored text excessively
Avoid non-standard colors. Content text should remain black except for minimal emphasis (e.g., one or two words in red).
❌ DO NOT share your ParentSquare login credentials
Your SmartSite access is tied to your ParentSquare account. Never share your username or password to prevent unauthorized access and security risks.
❌ DO NOT grant edit access to untrained staff
Only staff who have completed approved ParentSquare SmartSite training and have authorization from their principal or director should be given editing permissions.
