Stockton Unified School District Receives Multi-Million Dollar Payment After Judgment Against IAQ and ABS

Stockton, CA — After a formal judgment against IAQ Distribution and Alliance Building Solutions, Stockton Unified School District has received the first portion of its multi-million dollar settlement.

SUSD Trustees settled with the ultraviolet light air purification companies on July 22, 2025 for $3.75 million. $2 million was paid this week on August 22, 2025.

The Air Guardian disinfection units were purchased in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic for $6.6 million in ESSER Funds.

On January 18, 2024, SUSD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rodriguez worked with the California Department of Education to recapture $6.6 million in ESSER funding, allowing SUSD to reallocate the funds for other student services.

“The needs, health and well-being of our students is a top priority. It is positive we held IAQ accountable and get back monies we can use for other services and programs for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rodriguez.

As part of the settlement, IAQ Distribution and ABS are also responsible for removing approximately 1,369 Air Guardian units that were never installed.

“We always hold the success of our students at the forefront. Holding IAQ accountable was essential. Recovering these funds will allow us to reinvest in programs that directly support student success,” said Board President Kennetha Stevens.
