High School and Elementary Music Collaboration Concert

Each year, the high school music departments collaborate with the elementary schools in their zone to host a concert. This special event gives elementary students the chance to experience the high school music program, meet the teachers, and explore opportunities to participate in music beyond eighth grade.

Each year, the high school music departments collaborate with the elementary schools in their zone to host a concert. This special event gives elementary students the opportunity to see the high school music department they’ll eventually join, meet the teachers, and learn about the many ways they can continue participating in music beyond eighth grade.

The Chavez Zone is the first zone of the year to present their concert event. This inspiring performance brings together students from grades 6 through 12, representing ten participating elementary schools. It’s a wonderful showcase of musical growth and collaboration across the district.

Mariachi Chavez presents its first official music video, a stage performance where they interpret the popular song "Jarocho El Cascabel."

On May 11, 2018, Smokey Robinson made his second appearance at Fremont-Lopez Elementary School, where he serves as a designated mentor of the national Turnaround Arts program. Turnaround Arts offers educational services designed to increase the chances of success, engage the community, and raise the visibility of students' achievements. Our Mariachi students performed authentic Mariachi music, as well as Smokey Robinson's own "I Second That Emotion." Click on the image below to view a photo gallery of the event.
