The Community Relations Department is responsible for gathering and sharing information with families, local partners, news media, and the broader Stockton Unified School District community.

The department oversees the SUSD website and supports the SUSD 1852 Foundation.

The communications team also manages the District’s social media presence on Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube, and provides oversight for website content.

Crisis Communication Methods

During an emergency, Stockton Unified School District communicates through multiple channels to provide timely and accurate updates to staff, families, and the community.

Who We Notify

SUSD Employees

  • Email and text alerts through ParentSquare

Families

Community Members

Public Agencies, Representatives, and Media

  • Email, phone communication, press releases, or verified updates as appropriate

When We Communicate

Families can expect notifications for situations such as:

  • Gas leak
  • Lockdown
  • Natural disasters, including air quality, excessive heat, fires, flooding, and similar events
  • Police activity near a school
  • Power outage affecting instructional time
  • A threat against a school
  • Weapon on campus, including a firearm or knife brandished

Additional updates may be sent through phone calls or app alerts as needed.

Safety Assurance

SUSD is committed to keeping all students and staff safe at school. In the event of severe weather or another emergency where outdoor conditions are unsafe, schools will shelter students and staff in place until it is safe to dismiss or release individuals. Parents and guardians will receive updates through ParentSquare and official SUSD channels.
