Chronic Absenteeism
Did you know?
Understanding Chronic Absenteeism
Chronic absenteeism means your child has missed 10% or more of the school year for any reason. In the first semester, that can be as few as 8 days.
Students who are chronically absent often experience lower academic achievement compared to classmates who attend school regularly.
Excusing Absences
- You have five school days to excuse your child’s absence.
- After five days, the absence becomes unexcused.
- If your child is ill, please contact the school each day they are absent.
When to Keep Your Child Home
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Unexplained rash
After 14 days of excused absences, a doctor’s note will be required for each additional excused absence.
