Stockton Unified School District

The Stockton Unified School Board unanimously approved Board Policy BP 6146.1 – High School Graduation Requirements. This policy raises expectations and aligns graduation criteria with the University of California’s A–G requirements to ensure all students graduate college-, career-, and community-ready.

The updated graduation requirements ensure that all students complete college preparatory coursework, giving them the opportunity to apply to a wide range of colleges and universities or pursue career pathways prepared for success in the 21st-century workforce. Students must meet specific credit and grading requirements in each subject area to earn a high school diploma. Implementation began with the Class of 2024 and will be phased in through the Class of 2029.

Graduation Eligibility & Support for Students with Disabilities

Students may receive a high school diploma and participate in graduation ceremonies only after successfully meeting the District Graduation Requirements as outlined in the Rigorous Graduation Requirements Implementation Timeline.

Students with disabilities who plan to earn a regular high school diploma must complete all required courses and credits. IEP Teams are responsible for identifying and documenting any necessary accommodations or supports in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Similarly, 504 Teams must document required accommodations in the student’s 504 Plan.

Students with exceptional needs who qualify for a certificate of completion may also participate in graduation ceremonies and related school activities, just as their non-disabled peers. However, under Education Code 56391, participation in a graduation ceremony does not equate to the awarding of a regular high school diploma as defined in Education Code 56390.
