About Health Services

  • Health Services began in 1980 at the 701 N. Madison building. We began with three School Nurses and three Health Care Assistants. School Nurses had ten schools each, visiting three schools each day. Health Care Assistants assisted nurses and handled majority of the screenings held at SUSD school sites.

Today, our department consists of twenty School Nurses, thirteen Licensed Vocational Nurses, ten Health Care Assistants and two Office Personnel.

We continue to serve our students and community and providing preventative health services to facilitate our student's growth and development in all areas such as: physical, emotional, mental and social. Dental Clinics continue to be held at numerous school sites, offering dental procedures to those with insurance and those without. School based programs see hundreds of students per school year, in which 10% of the total amount seen are treated at no cost.

We will continue to strive to give our students what they need to remain healthy, strong and to perform at their best to academically excel.
