District Profile

  • Dr. Michelle Rodriguez, Superintendent of Schools

    Dear SUSD Community,

I am delighted to take this opportunity to share with you the progress we have made during my first 30 days as the Superintendent of the Stockton Unified School District (SUSD). The 30-Day Progress Report is linked to my 100 Day Plan and is communicated through the attached infographic in English and Spanish.

In the short time since I assumed this role, I have had the privilege of meeting with dedicated educators, administrators, staff, parents, and members of the community. Their commitment to our students' success has been truly inspiring, and together, we will provide students with a world-class education that prepares them for the futures they deserve.

I am pleased to share with you some significant milestones that have been achieved in areas crucial to our mission: building community trust, ensuring quality assurance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

    1. Strengthening Community Trust: During the past month, we have taken proactive steps to strengthen trust and foster open communication within the SUSD community. We initiated five Meet and Greets and seven Listening Sessions to engage with parents, students, teachers, staff, and community members. These interactions allowed us to listen to concerns, ideas, and aspirations, demonstrating our commitment to transparency and collaboration. By actively seeking input and addressing concerns, we are building a foundation of trust that will help us work together to achieve our shared educational goals.
    2. Quality Assurance Measures: Ensuring the highest quality of education for our students remains our top priority. To achieve this, we have secured top talent and established stability through filling ten interim positions and hiring 90 teachers and 167 classified employees for the 2023-2024 school year.
    3. Cultivating a Culture of Continuous Improvement: At SUSD, we recognize that continuous improvement is the key to providing an exceptional educational experience. In the last 30 days, we have implemented priority-based budgeting through the identification of the effective use of remaining ESSER funding. We have also ensured compliance with the implementation of Grand Jury requirements and FCMAT findings.

As we move forward, we remain dedicated to our vision of becoming a district that excels in community engagement, academic excellence, and continuous advancement. The foundation laid during these initial 30 days will guide our strategic planning for the future.

I invite you to take an active role in our journey toward excellence. Your support, feedback, and participation are invaluable to the success of our shared mission. Together, we can ensure that SUSD is a place where every student thrives and achieves their fullest potential.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the success of the Stockton Unified School District. I look forward to sharing more updates and accomplishments through my 100 Day State of the District Report. I look forward to seeing you in our schools and departments in the future weeks. I hope you have a wonderful first day of the 2023-2024 school year.

    Thank you,

    Dr. Michelle Rodriguez
