Vision and Hearing

    1. Vision and Hearing screens are mandated by the Ca. Dept. of Education on an annual basis:  

    1. Vision Screenings are for students in grades K, 2, 5, and 8. 

    1. Hearing Screenings are for students in grades K, 2, 5, 8.     

    1. Upon teacher and/or parent request

    Lenscrafters Foundation's "Give the Gift of Sight" Program

    Non-profit agencies and social service organizations can apply on behalf of individuals in need of glasses through this program. Children may also qualify for vision screenings. Contact your local LensCrafters for more information.

    New Eyes for the Needy

    Provides vouchers for new eyeglasses for those with financial needs with no other resources, public or private, to pay for glasses. The program accepts applications from third parties such as social service agencies or health professionals who are able to document the financial needs of clients. 

    Respectacle

    The user needs to enter their prescription and fill out some basic demographic info. Used eyeglasses will be mailed within 7–10 days of order. No additional paperwork or questions asked.

    This is a web-based organization selling generic frames and lenses for as little as $8.39. This is a web-based organization that offers discounts up to 70% on prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses.

    Zenni Optical

    This is a web-based organization selling generic frames, including lenses with an anti-scratch coating, for as little as $8.

    Violet Sees

    This is a web-based non-profit organization that provides free or reduced-cost glasses to children in need. A qualification questionnaire is submitted, and the organization will let users know if they qualify.

    Medicaid and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) are government programs that offer free or low-cost health insurance for children in families with low incomes. Medicaid and CHIP cover the cost of vision care for children. Keep in mind that each state has different rules to qualify for these programs.
