    WELCOME!

Hello and welcome to the Franklin High School's International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. Thank you for taking the time to consider our programs and for taking the time to invest in your future. If you are looking for a challenging program that will not only get you into college but get you through college, the FHS IB Program is for you. FHS IB has a 25-year history of preparing students for the challenges of college and a proven track record of high acceptance rate to top tier colleges and university. Our IB Program also holds the highest student Grade Point Averages in San Joaquin County and the highest number of Bi-literacy award recipients in the district. Equally, FHS has a 10-year history of preparing our middle years’ students for the IB Diploma Program where students prepare to perform at the highest level.

At FHS, we are proud to offer two world-class education IB programs. For grades 6-10 we offer the Middle Years Program (MYP). The MYP focuses on teaching the whole child while preparing students for the rigours of the Diploma Program (DP) in grades 11-12. The DP continues the same focus as MYP but adds more precise preparation for the IB exams that students must take each May. Furthermore, we also partner with the Primary Years Academy (PYA), which offers the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) to round out grades K-5, as part of an entire IB K-12 continuum.

As an international program, IB is offered in 153 countries around the world. IB has the highest college acceptance and completion rate with 79% of DP students graduating college compared to 39% of the national cohort (See link below). Our students are accepted at top colleges and universities both in the U.S. and around the world because of the level of preparation.

    http://ibo.org/globalassets/publications/ib-research/dp/dp-student-enrollment-outcomes-us-brief-en.pdf

Who can apply to the FHS IB Program?

We encourage all students grades 6-10, who want a rigorous program, to apply even if they did not attend our MYP in grades 6-8 or PYA in grades K-5. Our goal is to prepare all students to take the IB Exams in grades 11-12 so students may receive college credit and/or college requirement waivers depending on the college that they apply to. Again, the IB Program is a challenging program with two specific goals: 1.) IB Exam preparation which gets you to 2.) College acceptance and completion. We look forward to you joining the Franklin IB Family.

Where do our students attend college?

FHS IB students have a history of being accepted to all the UC and CSU schools within the state, and in-state private schools including Stanford, USC and UOP. Outside of the state, our students have attended Yale, George Town, John Hopkins, Notre Dame, North Western, Tulsa and many others. Finally, outside of the United States, we have had students attend universities in France, Ireland, Mexico, and Scotland to name a few.

    Who are the IB Coordinators?
Our IB Administrator and Diploma Program (DP) Coordinator is Dr. Sondra Knudsen. Dr. Knudsen has taught Psychology in the DP for 12 years and has previously been the DP Coordinator for five years. Additionally, she has served as our school's instructional coach. Along with her IB and administration duties, Dr. Knudsen oversees our Dual Enrollment Program with Delta College.

The Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator is Emmanuel Calderon. Mr. Calderon has been working in the IB Program for more than 13 years. Additionally, he has taught history at the MYP level and Psychology at the DP level and has served as coordinator for 6 years. While he is not currently teaching, he is focused on assisting and providing support to all members of the FHS IB Family; students, teachers, and parents. Currently, Mr Calderon also manages our online research resources and IB databases and other technology-related issues.

    Have you seen the coordinators?

When Dr. Knudsen or Mr. Calderon are not in the office, they are meeting with students and parents or working with teachers. Please leave us a note or a voice mail message and we will get back to you promptly. Our number is 209-933-7435 x8268 or x8242

    Where is the IB Office?

    Group 4 Project

The Group 4 Project is an interdisciplinary activity in which all Diploma Program science students must participate.  Students complete a collaborative activity where the different sciences work together on a scientific topic. This allows students to develop an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and their influence on other areas of knowledge (and they have a little fun in the process!).
