Greetings Parents and Students,
I am looking forward to a great 2017-2018 school year of teaching Math! I am very excited to have your child in my class this year! This is my second year at H.C.A., however, I have been teaching in the district for 22 years. I have taught for eleven years as an 8th grade math & AVID teacher at Marshall Middle School, and 10 years as a High School Math teacher at Edison High School. I have also been a Mathematics, Engineering, & Science Achievements (M.E.S.A.) advisor; as well as Vikings for Christ non-denominational faith based club advisor. I am so excited to be a part of H.C.A.! I have high expectations of all of my students; and would like for us to work together for the success of your child. My goal for students this year is to create a challenging, yet engaging, learning environment that will instill in them a love for learning math. My hope is to change the mindset that "math is difficult" or "math is not my thing" into "Math is Fun"! I love teaching and enjoy helping students become advocates of their own learning!
Aside from teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I am married and have four children. My husband is also a teacher. My two oldest sons are 30 and 24 and living on their own. My two youngest children are 10 and 12; and are busy with sports and school.
I will be incorporating the use of Interactive Notebooks this year. To help ensure success for your child in this class (Algebra II or Precalculus); I am suggesting the following classroom supplies:
- 2 - One Subject Notebooks - College Ruled - (Please make sure to purchase a notebook that has 100 pages and is 8 1/2 " X 11 ")
- 3 to 4 - Dry Erase Markers (Black)
- 2 to 4 - Glue Sticks
- Binder Paper - College Ruled
- Graph Paper
- Pencils/Pens/Highlighters
Please try to purchase these items by the first week of school. If this is not possible; please let me know and we can work something out.
I will be using this site along with jupiter grades to post assignments/projects and helpful links. I am available in the Math Lab(Rm. 26) for tutoring after school Tuesdays - Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns either by email, (listed above) or cell phone (209) 639-1720. Texting works best for me. Please don't text/call after 9 p.m. I will try to respond as soon as possible. I believe that by all of us working together, we can make this a very successful year! I am looking forward to meeting you all!
