MESSAGE FROM COACH STEVE………To the Franklin Community

This will be my fourth year at Franklin. I have had the privilege to coach some very fine kids so far! We have had a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to getting back out on the course with the team again very soon.

I feel that Franklin needs golf now more than ever in this troubled time. Golf teaches a young person many of life’s core values like Honesty, Integrity, and Perseverance to name a few. It is a very difficult sport that requires a ton of patience, lots of practice and hard work and the ability to stay calm in the face of adversity. AND Guess who notices a young person who has excelled at golf in high school? College Golf Coaches for one and later on in life, possibly, a prospective boss, who could have a huge influence on the rest of your life. They also understand how much hard work it takes to achieve success with the game of golf and they will want you on their team! Also, there are many fine colleges that offer scholarships for golf.

MYTH: Golf is a wealthy man’s sport…. not anymore! It has become very affordable. Used sets of Jr clubs can be found for $25 to $50, ladies and men’s sets are $50 to $100.  The Northern Calif. Golf Association (NCGA) has a program called Youth on Course (YOC).  Kids age 6 to 19 can pay $20 a year and get a membership card or download the YOC app. They present the card or the app on their cell phones at of the participating courses and then pay a $5 green fee to play! For more information go to NCGA.ORG and click on Junior Golf then YOC.

Here are 2 more organizations for junior golfers age 6 to 17 in the Stockton area. Both are very active programs most of which go one day a week for 6 to 9 weeks at a time. There are fees charged, however, both programs can offer financial assistance in some situations if needed.
