Dear King School Families,
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful summer and are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. I am so happy that you are part of our amazing learning community. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure all students can achieve their highest potential. Last year was a challenging year of maneuvering around all the COVID protocols. Attendance was really down. I am sure that 2022-23 will see an improvement. Students in a school on a daily basis do their best in school. We will need your help in making sure your children come to school every day. We saw a lot of growth benchmark assessments. Let’s keep that momentum going this Fall.
This next year we will be focusing on deepening our implementation of AVID, which will help our students be college and career ready, expanding our STEM and CTE in 4-6 grades, focusing on implementing the new phonics curriculum, increasing parent involvement, and parent education events, and reinstating many of our community events prior to the pandemic. Our mission is to provide an outstanding education for ALL of our students so that they have no barriers to their future success.
Next year, we will have a few changes in staffing. We will have 39 classroom teachers. We are adding back our Intervention teacher and we are receiving an increase in counselors from 2 to 2.5. Our enrollment remains consistent with a little over 1,000 students. Our King school team is ready and excited to welcome back our students.
This year will be my 30th year at King Elementary school! I have watched many of our past students grow into amazing young adults. I am honored and proud of our school and to be your Principal. Together let’s make it another great school year at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School! Go Lions!
