Positive Behavior Interventions & Support at Spanos Elementary
At Spanos Elementary, we commit to three expectations that the entire community will embrace and support: Be Present, Be Safe, and Be Kind. These three expectations are taught to our students by administration, noon duty supervisors, and teachers.
At the start of the year, all students and staff will participate in a PBIS kick-off event. Students in K-5th rotate to each of the five common areas of the school (cafeteria, playground, bathroom, hallway, amphitheater) to learn the expectations and safety measures as outlined in our behavioral matrix. Students in 6th-8th grades received a middle school presentation emphasizing the behavioral matrix, reviewing the behavior contract and rewards program. In addition, our Story With the Principal event features the school principal visiting all classrooms with a message for the year and reading a story supporting the special message.
Another key component to PBIS at Spanos Elementary is our acknowledgement system. Our rewards system is as follows:
K-5th PBIS Store
6th-8th Positive Point System
Positive Referrals for Students with Character Traits K-8th
Recess Mystery Box Raffle K-5th
