Mr. Fernando J Alvarez

I am from a small town named Angamacutiro in the Mexican State of Michoacan de Ocampo.

I grew up in a rural community with close familial and amicable ties. I lived there from birth to mid high school.

I immigrated to the United States in the year 2000 at the age of seventeen years old. I lived for a year in Los Angeles County and attended Artesia High School in Lakewood, CA.

Then, I moved to Northern California in 2001.

My experience in adult education dates back to the year 2001. I began as an adult learner at the Migrant Program from Sacramento State.

I obtained my GED through the program. Later that year, I was hired as a tutor to help fellow students succeed and obtain their diploma.

Later on, I attended Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. There, I obtained two associates degrees, one in Social Sciences and one in General education.

From CRC, I transferred to CSU, Sacramento in 2006. I graduated with a B.A. in psychology and began to work with people with developmental disabilities.

In 2009, I was hired back as a GED tutor for the Migrant Program. During my semester, I was invited to be a teacher at Galt Adult School.

I taught GED Spanish and Intermediate ESL until the school closure in 2013. I was hired at Stockton School for Adults as a GED teacher as well as a multilevel ESL teacher.

Since then, I have had the fortune to serve the Stockton community. Nowadays, I also hold a master's degree in education with an emphasis on instructional design.
