    TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

    Thank you to all the students & parents who participated in the Teacher & Staff appreciation week.  We hope our Rio Teachers and Staff know we are thankful for all that they do!    



    KENNEDY GAMES 

    The 41st annual John F. Kennedy International Games were held at Cesar Chavez High School on Saturday, April 27th from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. 

    CONGRATULATIONS!!  Rio athletes took home individual medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.  Rio's Team placed 5th overall among 25 SUSD schools that participated.  Rio Calaveras represented Canada.

    Thank you to all who came out to support our Rio Calaveras Team at this great event! Rio students trained diligently, with the help of their coach, Mr. Cook.  

    The games were inspired by President John F. Kennedy's national physical fitness program.  SUSD launched the event as a way to raise cultural awareness of other countries and to inspire physical fitness.



    BUNNY HOP 

    We hope you enjoyed participating in our 9th Annual Bunny Hop on Thursday, April 18 from 3:30 - 4:30 PM. 

    All canned goods received were donated to the Stockton Food Bank.  Thank you for supporting this great cause! 

    This year, we featured a new obstacle course and for each lap of the course completed, a raffle ticket was earned.  Raffle gift baskets were donated by each grade level.  Thank you, Rio teachers and staff for your continued support!



    Rio Counselor's partnership with Parent Cafe:

    Our sessions each Monday have concluded.  We shared & discussed many topics on how to help ourselves and our children build positive relationships and tools to manage stress as we navigate this path of life.  Thank you, to all the parents who joined us in these informative and interesting conversations each week in the staff lounge.  We hope you found resources and information that will help you now and in the future.  BIG, BIG Thanks to our Rio counselors, Ms. Richards and Mr. Moua, for bringing this program to Rio!



    BUY ONE GET ONE FREE Book Fair:  

    Thank you to all who supported our BOGO Book Fair!  Many took advantage of this great deal and our Donuts with Dino-mite Dads and Muffins with Mommasauruses event had a great turnout! All proceeds generated will benefit Rio students.

    Many, many thanks to all our volunteers for your continued support.  We would not be able to bring this event to our school without the help of our wonderful volunteers!



    2nd Annual Spaghetti Dinner:

    Rio's 2nd Annual Spaghetti Dinner was held on Friday, March 1st from 5 - 8 PM.  Angelina's Spaghetti House catered the event.  We were very lucky and honored to have DJ Rudy "Good Face" as our emcee for the event!

    Attendees enjoyed and went home with great prizes from the Raffle, Silent Auction and Live Dessert Auction, such as:

    • Disneyland 1-day hopper tickets for a family of 4
    • Squaw Valley Ski Lift tickets for 4
    • $100 GC from Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant
    • Various themed baskets
    • Children bicycles
    • Chromebook
    • Nothing Bundt Cakes
    • Other great desserts

    8th Annual STEAM NIGHT featuring Star Lab:

    Thanks to all the families that joined us for Family STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Night on Monday, January 28 from 4 - 7 PM.  

    • Star Lab participants learned about the night sky
    • 1st grade hosted a "plant your own sunflower" using Mr. Le's seeds from Rio's garden
    • 2nd grade activity table combined art & math
    • 5th grade showed off their STEAM projects in Mr. Pham's classroom as well as presented various FUN hands on science projects
    • 6th grade shared coding on computers
    • 7th & 8th grade played with their robotic inventions
    • UOP's Tribenzene Chemistry Club conducted fasinating science experiments

    We hope you had a BLAST!



    FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT:

    Thanks to all the Families who joined us for Family Literacy Night!  Students and their families enjoyed listening to stories read by our guest readers, shared hot cocoa and cookies and many students went home with books and other great prizes that were raffled during the event.

    CAMP COMMUNITY PROJECT:  A Donation Drive to help our neighbors recover from the Camp fire

    We are so fortunate to have a GENEROUS and GIVING community!  Thank you to all who made donations to this drive. We were able to raise $2,196.55.  Thank you for your compassion and generosity!

     



    UPDATE:  We are sorry!  Due to poor air quality, we have cancelled this event.  Donations of 3 canned foods are still being accepetd.  Please bring to Rio before 9am, Friday, November 16th.  Thank you for your continued support!

    Come join us for Rio's 4th Annual Harvest Festival featuring Texas Roadhouse. There will be:

    • games
    • cookie decorating
    • crafts
    • farmer's market
    • dunk tank (Mr. Cook, Mr. Moua, Ms. Richards, Mr. Tyrone, Mrs. Mata and Mrs. Hall)
    • food alley (pizza, nachos, pumpkin pie, and drinks)

    Texas Roadhouse meal includes BBQ pulled pork & chicken, cole slaw and corn @ $15.  Presale ticket order forms, with money, are due FRIDAY, October 19th. LIMITED quantities available. First come first serve.  Pre-sold tickets will be distributed at the Harvest Festival and meals will be served between 12 - 2 PM.

    RAFFLE: Disneyland admission tickets for a family of 4 will be raffled during the Harvest Festival.  Raffle tickets are $1 each. Must be present to win. Raffle ticket sales and announcement of winner will be during the Harvest Festival. Update:  Congratulations to our Disneyland raffle winner - K. Choup from Mrs. Wong's class!



    Rio Calaveras is an AVID school.  All students and parents are encouraged to come to the event to learn more about AVID, college preparedness & career paths.  A light dinner will be served.

    At 6:30 PM our PTA will hold their General Meeting
