Springboard Summer

Dear SUSD Parents and Guardians,

Are you looking for a free academic summer program for your child? Are you concerned that your child's reading skills may decrease during the two-month break? SUSD is partnering with Springboard Collaborative to offer a Kindergarten through the 5th-grade reading program that will give your child the opportunity to gain reading skills this summer.

The Springboard Extended Year will be Monday, June 3 through Friday, July 5, 2019 (no school on July 4, 2019). The schedule is:

  • 8:00 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Instruction
  • 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. - Family Workshops on Wednesdays (6/5/19, 6/12/19, 6/19/19, 6/26/19 and 7/3/19)

** Breakfast and lunch will be available for enrolled students

** This program is free to participating families

How it works

Over 5 weeks, scholars attend half-day instruction in small classes. They read together as a class, in small groups, and independently. Teachers will use your child's reading level to plan for instruction designed for your child to become a more proficient reader. Teachers lead weekly workshops to help YOU learn strategies to teach reading at home. We know that you are the expert on your child’s progress and we are confident that your home is an excellent classroom. Scholars also get 11 new books to read and re-read that are theirs to keep.

Earning awards

Families who attend all five of the weekly workshops can earn extra awards. Springboard sets a growth goal for every child. Students who reach their goal will receive a backpack full of school supplies. Every family who attends each workshop and helps their child exceed their goal will also receive a tablet!

Locations

The program will be at the following schools:  Van Buren, Pulliam, Monroe, Fillmore, August, Hoover, Hamilton, and Elmwood. If your child is currently a K-5 student and attends any of these schools, please reach out to the staff and let them know you are interested in your child attending the Extended Year Program this summer.

Additionally, if your child is a K-5 student and attends a neighboring school, please contact one of the schools below to let the staff know that you are interested in your child attending the Extended Year Program at that school.  Please note, however, that transportation will not be provided.
