Read to Me, Stockton! at Spanos Elementary
Description
The event will be held in the Spanos Elementary school library, and:
- Parents will gain a better understanding of the Read to Me, Stockton! program and sign up for the program if they have not already done so. (Ann Johnston former Mayor)
- We will have our Acting Superintendent Dan Wright and City Librarian Suzie Daveluy model how to read “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” in English and Spanish to the preschoolers and explain the importance of establishing reading routines during the most critical times ages 0-5.
- Every child will receive the book “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” and have the choice of English or Spanish.
- “Music & Movement” with the students (a few songs) (Sandra Thorton)
- There will be cookies and drinks for children and families.
- We will raffle off 20 car seats!
- Representatives from San Joaquin Public Health will meet with the winners of the car seats and do a brief presentation on how to properly install the car seats.
Walking Fieldtrip Expectations:
- Encourage all parents to attend the event, it is a special day with their child. We have flyers in English and Spanish to hand out to parents.
- Every parent will need to sign a walking fieldtrip form.
- Every child will need a name tag to ensure all children are accounted for during the event.
- Parents will sign their children in and out at Gleason.
- You will need to bring emergency information binder and medications.
- At the end of the event- your will walk both classes back to Gleason Head Start. Parents who did not win a car seat will sign out their child from preschool and we will distribute a bag lunch upon dismissal.
- For those lucky parents who won a car-seat, they will stay for an additional 20 minutes for the safety class and then walk back to Gleason to pick up their child and sign out of the program. These children can eat the bag lunch in the classroom while they are waiting for their parents.
