Toua Vang
My name is Toua Vang. I am currently an 8th grade Math, Science, and ELD teacher at Fremont Elementary in Stockton Unified School District. I’ve been a teacher and with the district for exactly twelve years. I grew up in Stockton California and have lived here all my whole life. I came to Stockton from the refugee camps of Thailand when I was six years old. Today I still enjoy and love living in this city. Today I still cherish every memory of my childhood here including the good and the bad. I have taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, Multicultural, Creative Writing, and English Language Development throughout the years. This is my second year teaching only Math and Science in middle school. I have also taught kindergarten, second, and fourth grade. I’ve also had the opportunity to coach boys basketball in middle school for three years.
I speak and write both English and Hmong (my native language) fluently. I come from a traditional, cultural, and religious family, my heritage and ancestral are Shamanism. I am the oldest of two siblings. I only have one brother and no sister. I am very fortunate to have been raised the right way by my parents and grandparents. They’ve supported me throughout my life and taught me right from wrong. With the help of my parents, I was able to finish college and be in the position that I am today. I thank them for never giving up on me and always being there for me. Today I’m blessed with a wonderful loving wife and five lovely children, two sons and three daughters. I could not have asked for a more perfect family and life. I hope to have many grandchildren in the future. I really enjoy spending time with my family and extended families. We often get together every other weekend and have events and gatherings. I enjoy taking road trips and visiting monumental places all over the country with my family and friends.
I am a friendly and down to earth person, I am the kind of person that wears my heart on my sleeve. I like to give and help out others in need. When I’m free, I enjoy playing basketball, soccer, volleyball, and watching all professional sports. I am a diehard NFL fan, my favorite football team is the San Francisco 49ers. I also like the outdoors, I fish, hike, jog, and bike whenever I can too. One day I want to be able to travel around the world and just explore it all.
Ever since I was a kid growing up in Stockton California, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I grew up attending many Stockton schools around the town and I know the struggles, challenges, and hardships students face every day in our schools and city. I know what it takes to be successful in school and in life. I know if I can make it, so can anyone, that’s why I have decided to become a teacher so I can help students along the way. My goal as a teacher is to make sure all students are learning and succeed at doing it. I will try my best to support, guide, and prepare every one of my students for a better future. I know education is the key to enrichment and success. I will continue to strive and aim for the best at what I do. Every new school year I look forward to helping and reaching out to my new students. I know teachers can change the future and lives cause some of my teachers have changed mine.
