My name is Mrs. Matelski. I am the Kindergarten teacher here at Washington Elementary School. I have been working with children for over 10 years in various capacities. I have found tremendous joy and delight in teaching Kindergarteners! I went to California State University Stanislaus and earned my degree in Elementary Teaching but before I went into education full time, I owned and ran my own business in the industrial cleaning industry and before that I sold homes. I decided to pursue my goal of excelling as an educator after having my four children.
My teaching goal is to create an environment where children feel inspired to love learning, to be kind and compassionate and to believe in themselves. We work hard in Kindergarten and we have fun doing it! My lectures are short and interactive to maintain focus. The work of our classroom is hands-on with a variety of meaningful discovery centers and play oriented activities. I maintain that young children retain their learning best when they are having fun and feel the content is meaningful. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching Kindergarteners is the tremendous growth they experience in the classroom throughout each trimester. Kindergarten is vital for a strong foundation in literacy, mathematics, fine motor skills and social skills in order for children to be ready for first grade.
